Workshop 4 - But I Brush My Dog!

(Better Brushing Between Grooming Visits)

Instructor: Robin Click (a Naturally 4 Paws Groomer)

Sunday, November 1st, 2026 – 1:00 p.m.

Silverdale Training Center - $29 per person

All dogs need some form of regular skin and coat care—and not just when they visit the groomer! We’ve all seen those dramatic before-and-after photos online: a cute, fluffy dog goes into the grooming salon and comes home with a very different haircut. But when a severely matted coat has to be shaved, your groomer isn’t doing it because they don’t like you—or your dog. Matting can be uncomfortable and even lead to skin problems and other complications.

You may already be brushing your dog regularly, but how you brush, the tools you use, and your dog’s individual coat type can make a tremendous difference. A little knowledge and the right technique can help keep your dog’s skin and coat healthy, comfortable, and looking great between professional grooming visits.

In this practical workshop, Robin will introduce you to different coat types, brushes and grooming tools, and show you how to use them effectively. You’ll learn techniques for preventing mats, reducing shedding, and making at-home grooming easier and more comfortable for both you and your dog. A happier groomer at your next appointment is an added bonus!

  • Coat Types — Understanding your dog’s coat and its individual grooming needs
  • Brushes & Tools — Choosing the right tools and learning how to use them properly
  • Line Brushing — The ultimate brushing technique for thoroughly working through the coat
  • Matting — What causes mats, why they matter, and why shaving may sometimes be safer than brushing them out
  • Conditioning Sprays vs. Oils — Understanding when and how these products can help
  • The Dreaded Shedding — Techniques to help reduce loose hair and manage shedding at home
  • Tips, Tricks & Training for Better Grooming — Simple ways to make grooming easier and more positive for your dog

Basic grooming at home between professional appointments does more than keep your dog looking good. It can help maintain healthy skin and coat, make grooming appointments easier and more comfortable, and provide another opportunity to build trust and strengthen the bond between you and your dog.

This workshop includes dedicated time for a Q&A with Robin.

Interested in bringing your dog? Robin is looking for a few volunteers to provide real-time examples of different coat types. Prior approval from Robin is required.
